SOA is hard
Why else would it be considered "elite" and something that "average" programmers would have a problem with? As for silos, they form because (J-type) humans need to control hierarchies and create patterns. Architects are P-types and embrace change. This juxtaposition between the 2 types causes issues that guarantee SOA failure.

SOA is an "outside-the-box" activity which is beyond the capability of 50% of the general population (and 75%+ of the business management population). No WONDER its having such a hard time.
