SCA is about building services to fit into a SOA

Hi Joe,
Its Oracle Dave Chappell. In my blog writeup on the SCA panel discussion gets heated after the fact I spoke about this area of contention, which I thought that David, Gregor et al had settled on over dinner.

The primary value proposition of SCA is about providing a common model for component assembly for building services. What's so "unSOA" about that?

SCA is about building component assemblies, or ?composites? that can be assembled together in a variety of ways to form a distributed architecture. In that regard it is not in of itself a distributed architecture.

SCA enables the creation of discrete components that can be plugged together in a SOA in a loosely coupled, platform independent fashion using a variety of protocols.

SCA composites can be wired together in a nested fashion to form a distributed network of services in any way you see fit. It does not imply a specific middleware implementation or runtime architecture. Again, I'll ask what's so unSOA about that? The runtime infrastructure is left very open to vendor implementations that can provide value add such as grid computing for provisioning, scalability, and high availability.

If my distinguished namesake thinks that SCA is all about Java vendors, then I would like to point out that it is designed to allow for any platform or programming language. Microsoft is, and has always been, certainly welcome to participate in the effort.
