BPEL and Governance Registry Repository
There's a link between BPEL and Governance also.

BPEL is really just metadata. XML descriptors that help extend the definition of service behavior. The runtime is the BPEL runtime, so as such it is metadata with a runtime enforcement point, much like service contracts on an ESB...

The important thing is that BPEL processes need serious governance. Just because someone can draw the flow in a BPEL diagram doesnt mean that this flow wont break either the IT subsystems or that it wont break some kind of business requirements or even regulatory requirement.

The good news is that since BPEL is basically XML, you can set up rules in the registry repository context that can check and sanitize these artifacts as they are stored in the system.
