Problem with your thinking...
Sun owns the copyright. That means that they can
rebrand the license. If you fork it, it is GPL
forever. Thus you are definitely loosing out.

Your argument would have made sense if Sun would
have said, "hey we are going to release this under
the Apache license." But until that happens your
point is moot!
