I agree with Jonathan Zuck up to a point...
"Commercial software must be allowed to compete on a level-playing field with other software types." Is not this what open source has been saying for a long time? Isnt this what the Opera vs MS lawsuit is kinda about? How the tying of IE with windows gives it an advantage over Opera and Mozilla, that they both cannot compete because of it? Shouldnt that go both ways? Shouldnt we want a level playing field for everyone?

"Public procurement decisions should be based on technology neutrality. Governments ought to buy software on its merits and not through categorical preferences. To demand anything else is to impose one business model over another.?
So should Governments pick what software is best for them? If you force them all to go opensource then isnt that taking away their choice and freedom by forcing them to use one type? I thought opensource was about freedom? Forcing Governments to only use opensource doesnt that take away their freedom?

I am not saying one is better then the other, just they both have their place, and by forcing one over the other he has a valid point. Let them and everyone choose what works best for them, computers are a tool not a religion you can have both commercial and open-source software that get along fine. Why does it always have to be one or the other and not both? I guess what I am saying is "can't we all get along?"
