Dana, we agree with you and Matt Asay that software licenses matter less in the cloud, in a world where software is increasingly delivered as a web service. Black Duck Software?s recent analysis of licensing trends revealed an interesting further point - the growing, albeit small, adoption of AGPL, the GPL license of choice for hosted services. Our review shows that the AGPL has grown a lot since last year although it still represents a tiny share of overall projects (less than 1/10th of 1%). See: http://www.blackducksoftware.com/oss

Nonetheless the AGPL is the license that would have the most impact in the cloud. Dana makes a good point - the one license that would matter a lot for developers creating software for web distribution isn?t being used as much as one would expect.
