Ive logged bugs in MySQL, Java and PHP and Ive only done it because I was using them at the time. I felt, hey, Im using this product and wouldnt it be nice to have someone fix the bugs in them for free? I use them also at work. Im a software tester who writes programs to test things and I log bugs in opensource so that they can fix the things I use at work. Yeah it sucks that my work in logging bugs gets the company free bug investigation by me and then use that to sell themselves to get bought out by a bigger company. But hey, thats the price I am willing to pay for free, good, fast, relable software. I used proprietary software before (ie. MsAccess Database) only to learn that the next year they change the frigging APIs on the macros on it (they did this every year in the 90's) and so I stopped using proprietary software at work. Also if the company goes out of business(which a few have on me) then youre **** out of luck having learned how to program on something that is DEAD.
