How about at the backpedaling stage?
I personally think it's following the same paths as the early days of personal computing. Back then code and innovations were swapped back and forth among the computer community with the intent of everyone profiting from the collected wisdom.
Then along came 'Those Names we all know, who started doing it strictly as a business. Within five years, the sense of community and open sharing was gone as everyone scrambled to get their own personal piece of the pie.
People that used to be committed to not being like IBM were soon doing everything they could to become the "next IBM." Just look at how much the philosophy at Apple has changed if you want an example. These guys are more dedicated to proprietary then IBM ever was.
Open Source is walking down the same road. Individual projects may be at different points along the way. But the final destination - back to closed systems - remains the same. - Posted by: votre Posted on: 06/26/09 (Edited: 06/26/2009 @ 11:15) You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
