How friendly is the Movable Type fork?

If Byrne Reese is behind it, it is worth serious consideration: I know Bryne Reese has been a major contributor to the core features of open source MT.

It may be as simple as Bryne not being happy with the direction in which MT is going.

He is intimately knowledgeable of MT to the extent that he could carry development a of fork of it on his own.

But the perceived level of support behind such a fork at this juncture may be a strike against it for many who would opt for the stability of MT and Six Apart.

I chose MT for my site because of the fact that it is pure Perl, which is safer than PHP and when used with Apache and FastCGI and mod_Perl is blazingly fast.

Because Apache mod_Perl loads in memory once, it makes DoS ineffective in combination with Apache's mod_App_Armor.

MT is rock solid; highly configurable with little technical assistance.

BTW, Ars Technica recently chose to move to MT.

Folks who have an IT edge might go willingly with Melody, but for the less technically inclined, MT is currently the safer choice.
