The problem is enforcement
That is pretty simple. What is even simpler though is that realistically if you make code available to the public, it's impossible to catch developers who take your code and compile it into a proprietary software project. First of all, how would you even know which projects to investigate, and even if you did, how could you prove that the original source was stolen from your project? And even if you could prove it, nobody even knows if the GPL will stand up in court. It's a lost cause. All that can be done is include the license with the terms you desire to be followed and hope most people will honor your wishes, which obviously won't prevent people who want the code from taking it.

Is that simple enough for you? happy

Licenses allow one to use Copyrighted works.  B.O.F.H. | 06/23/09
The problem is enforcement  Tiggster | 06/23/09
It has already been tested in both the US and Germany.  B.O.F.H. | 06/23/09
And you think?  Tiggster | 06/23/09
It depends on the license a project/developer uses.  B.O.F.H. | 06/23/09
The question you keep dodging is...  Tiggster | 06/23/09
Tiggster, that is a question best asked of the lawyers.  B.O.F.H. | 06/23/09
This applies to GPL code only, not all Open Source works.  B.O.F.H. | 06/23/09
