Desktops are (becoming more) irrelavant
Case in point: About two years ago all we had at home were desktops. I put in wireless and bought my wife a laptop with wireless built in. Once she began using the new laptop, she would occasionally go to her old desktop to find something, but never returned to use it again. Once she had the freedom to compute where ever she wanted, like in the kitchen or living room, she no longer wanted to use the desktop.

I believe this is where computing is now for anyone having the option. Where I work, we all have laptops. When at our desk, we use a monitor and keyboard with them, but there are no more desktop computers. I believe Dana is right. Eventually, what would be the difference between plugging the monitor and keyboard into a phone device? If the applications that we need to do our jobs can run on it, who cares whether it's Windows, Linux, or something else.

I think those of you here pointing fingers at others because you are married to a platform makes you the dinosaurs of the future. Computing in my view has already moved past the platform, just not very far yet. And I don't think it's going to take 10 years before the desktop is irrelevant -- it's already irrelevant.
