RE: How much do desktops matter?
Desktops are indispensable. Things like iPhone are almost useless without it. How else are you going to install new software and back up files on your mobile devices. People like Zemlin are so myopic that they forget that any technology is only relevant when it is useful and usable by the masses. Otherwise, it is only of interest to the people who are involved, i.e., the Linux crowd; and means absolutely nothing to everyone else.
