- Laptop - Average consumer Desktop/worstation - Power user
-
It`s simple as that. My gf is an average consumer, she only needs a laptop for basic internet browsing/instant messaging/basic video/audio editing etc.
On the other hand, i am a 3D Graphics designer. I work with 3Ds Max/Maya/Zbrush etc. My Mac Pro takes 20 minutes or more to render a scene, and it is a dual Xeon power horse (the new Nehalem based model) with 16Gbs of ram.
So yes, for power users and ******** gamers, desktops and workstations are the way to go. For the average user, a laptop or netbook is more than enough.
I also have a laptop when i go somewhere and need to take my work with me, ofc, but a laptop will never suffice my needs, unless somebody figures out how to inciorporate the most powerful Xeon/high-end Desktop processors/lost of memory and a power GFX card into a light 6 pounds light small laptop.
Yes, i know about "desktop replacement laptops" like the Alienware/Sager etc., but they are big and heavy, and make a lot of noise (my Mac Pro is very silent, so goes for my custom-built rig, both extremly quiet, and this is a very important factor, i can`t work when i have a 3000rpm fan spinning near me) - Posted by: NeoGeneration Posted on: 06/19/09 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
