The power in E-books lies in E-books
For me an e-book is text to be read period. Fiction, reference books (technical or other) etc. they are just content to be read.

Why would I spend money on an appliance and specially designed e-books that link to the web ?

Today I have a smartphone on which I read my pdf formatted e-books and if I want to check a reference on the web I have my browser and unlimited web Access.

If I have not finished my e-book, I can read it easily in the over crowded subway despite being stuck in a corner with barely space to breathe which I could not do with one to the appliances sold today.

As far as connectivity ... USB to do PC to phone transfer, 3g+ to download the news from my online newspapers, and 3g+ browsing to web sites for technical and literary reference. Have I Left something out ? I don't think so. Oh yes : 100grams for all that and I can still call home to say I'll be late for dinner.
