What problem?
Would you care to be more specific? Exactly what problem does the Gnome UI give Ubuntu.

And also what can be done to make software installation and update any easier? Most software is in the repo and you only have to select it and click install. If you are talking about outside packages then its up to the package developer to package the software for the target distro. All the Linux distro can do is provide the istall system which most of them have done. What else can they do?
