RE: The biggest threat to open source in 2009
I think that I am losing the respect for Dana Blankenhorn that I was steadily generating..........this is almost trying to equate the constant system and software upgrades that major Linux distributions feed to their users with the Windows regime. I cannot speak for any of the other distributions, but Dana is utterly wrong with respect to OpenSUSE......My operating system of OpenSUSE11 is permanently on line to SUSE with an upgrade mechanism and on any given day it will indicate to me that an upgrade of either a security nature or normal patch to other software is required. I can even choose to install it or not, or select which of the patches I require.....I go online via the Update software and install them........These patches cover ALL aspects of the OS and its software. I believe that Ubuntu does the same and I cannot imagine Fedora would not do this as well.....

I cannot believe that Dana would be that ignorant of the normal and constant update routine for Linux operating systems. If he is this ignorant, then he should not be writing about them; if he DOES know however, that opens another very unpleasant door and I have to ask the question: Why is incorrect information being disseminated on this site ?
