I can't believe anyone would publish such claptrap and use their real name and photo, so I'm guessing you're writing under the identity of someone you hate. You're a moron, Mr. Blankenhorn-- all of the major linux distributions offer regular, painless update notification and automatic updates. Even worse, you made me break my personal rule of always being courteous-- this piece is so stupid, ignorant, and wrong I felt it was justified to flame you. Please please please-- just shut up and do not write one more word about Linux or open source. Just go away and don't come back until you know what you're talking about.
