What's the point of reading someone's opinion?
Additional information or a new perspective or both. That's especially worthwhile when erroneous information has been circulated or conventional wisdom is domineering.

So if the PR staff can make your information more reliable or provide you with additional perspectives to consider, it doesn't seem inappropriate to keep in touch.
