Enough open-source propaganda
If this was about a technical violation of a license, focus on that and leave out the bias.

I think we've all seen enough crappy and inept open source code that your comment about "being in retreat" against it is laughable.

As long as MS and other commercial code providers refocus on Q/A, open source will turn into a niche. Why? Because open source's "feature" that anyone can fork code is it's greatest weakness.

People by nature like predictability and consistency. That's why there is a McDonalds, Starbucks, Burger King on every second street corner, and each of their locations serves the identical meal prepared in exactly the same way.

Any chain company is an empire built on consistency, and if you built it, they will come and buy that burger and drink that coffee.

What can the computer world learn from this? The fanboys will learn nothing of course.

But the reality is (as MS learned with Office 2007 and ribbon uproar) that if you make 100 desktops work in the same way, with the same abilities and features, people will prefer that over 100 different desktops.

Just like in the food world, a nice French bistro tucked away in a corner of Paris might give you a better dinning experience, but if you're hungry and pressed for time the McDonalds down the street makes more sense.

Substitute Linux distro for bistro, Windows for McDonalds, and getting work done for hunger. It's exactly the same concept, and exactly the same paradigm. And while we might all want to eat at a bistro every time we eat out, the reality is we don't.
