Same script, different actors
Everyone hates "the king of the hill." Once upon a time,
Microsoft was David and the Goliath was IBM... and
everyone was filled with schadenfreude as IBM lost control
of the PC market (hardware) and wound up seriously
restructuring its business since the old rules didn't work
anymore. Adding insult to injury, Microsoft spurned IBM
along with OS/2 and was wildly successful in doing so.

Then eventually Microsoft became the Goliath chewing up
and spitting out anyone it didn't like and/or eating
someone else's lunch.

Then this new company called Google came around and
became David.

Eventually Google will be the hated company. But this is
the same psychology that drives so many people in other
countries to hate the United States... but damn, sure
seems like everyone wants to move here... this is known as
envy.

As my subject says, "Same script, different actors".

I personally haven't reached the point where I hate Google,
if anything I'm glad to see an organization owning
Microsoft and giving it some much needed humility. It
became tiring seeing Microsoft "add 'X' to every copy of
Windows" to steamroll anyone that came along and tried to
do anything interesting.

As far as Google and open source go, they leverage it,
they've made contributions... but in the end they *ARE* a
business... they don't exist for altruistic reasons. That's
called a not for profit and such organizations are in a
league below (20,000) a highly profitable company like
Google.
