GPL and Copyright
Raymond's Open Source shouldn't be confused with Stallman's Free Software. They're not really the same thing. The Free software movement tends to be the more militant of the two.

But consider this: the Free Software movement and the GPL are dependent on copyright law. Without it, everything would be in the public domain and very little source code would be shared.

The anarchists you want to point to in this story tend to align with Open Source because they view it as "Sticking it to the man." (I date myself with that phrase.) They want to see the abolishment of copyright. They are not really part of the Free Software movement.

Since I'm on the subject, I think that software should only be under copyright if its source code is made available so that the program can be used and modified once the copyright has expired.
