Thing is, though
That Stallman has a collection of "followers" who don't understand what he stands for and see it as an excuse to attack anyone in the broader FOSS world who disagrees with them.

They're small and very vocal but otherwise of little or no influence.

You forget to mention that Stallman himself sees no problems at all with making money from GNU licensed software though the lunatic fringe does seem to

(I'm equally pretty sure said lunatic fringe wants to know what Torvalds thinks of them happy )
