Since these sorts of providers work directly for the user and are easily fired, they have some motivation to do a good job for the users. Furthermore, the ones that support free software can, and sometimes do, hire developers, who thus get an opportunity to support their own creations (as I have noted elsewhere, every programmer should get such an opportunity) and to earn an honest living doing what they love.
