Well that's only correct if you accept that MS had any momentum in the first place.

argues that MS used it's billions to buy extra IIS percentage points in the Netcraft statistics.

But only for parked domains, not for real live servers.

The argument sounds very plausible to me.
i.e.
The drop in the Apache numbers can be explained by MS inflating it's Netcraft numbers by the simple tactic of
persuading a few large registrars to dump dead sites on IIS and Google has grabbed 6+% by not reporting itself as Apache anymore.
