Well, maybe they have to, because NVidia drivers are *crashing the machine*? In the almost 10 years I use Linux, most crashes/lockups of my machine were due to NVidia drivers. In contrast, the Open-Source "nv" drvier is stable. That's not propaganda, just experience.

Not to mention the installation problems is causes to have to get the drivers from the different source than the kernel - and that every time there's a security update for the kernel.

There definitely is a very urgent need for proper, full-featured, Open-Source drivers for current video cards.
