Fight for a wireless Internet being lost

What wireless?

Here I am in central Ohio, a couple of miles from a small city with DSL service. No such thing where I am. No DSL, no cable. Only very slow dialup (<20 kbps) due to very poor phone lines and very expensive ($75/mo.) and unreliable satellite. Talk about being held hostage! I would love to have an alternative.
