You only tell half the story
There remain a large cohort of programmers, partners, and simple fans who will stay with Microsoft and what it chooses to call open source no matter what.

And there remains a large cohort of programmers, partners, and simple fans who will stay away from Microsoft no matter what. Those people will jump on this and blow it out of proportion even though their mind had already been made up and nothing was going to change it anyway.

Then there are the people in the middle who will look at this with more clarity. MS made a mistake with some little used, barely heard of product (Seriously, had YOU heard of Sandcastle before this? Be honest.) and then apologized for it and removed it from the open source site. Those people will shrug and will continue to use MS products where they make sense and they will continue to use non-MS products where they make sense. In other words, the only thing that has changed is your level of righteous indignation which, I might add, is no mean feat! happy
