- Well, the idea is that CUSTOMERS will choose their phone, just like they
-
choose their PC. Dell does not need to do deals with internet service providers for instance. But, YES, right now, the carriers are the ones that select the phones that you can use with their service.
But, even in the current climate, Verizon joining LiMo and allowing LiMo phones from various manufacturers on their network, does NOT mean that they will won't also allow Android phones on their network. If various manufacturers make cool Android phones, carriers will adopt them to satisfy customers. Even in the current system, customers as a whole have some pull. If a certain phone is popular, carriers will have little choice but to support it.
But, hopefully, eventually, all of this madness will end, and phones will not be tied to carriers just like PCs are not tied to ISPs. - Posted by: DonnieBoy Posted on: 05/14/08 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
