Nokia: A Force to be Reckoned With
I don't necessarily believe that Android will be a mobile handset dominant O/S. But its too early in the game.

What I do know is Nokia has shown just how well Developer support can be cultivated.
Take a look around a Forum Nokia. Android doesn't have this level of support.

I have spent extensive time using both Symbian-based (N95) and Linux-based (N800 OS 2008) Nokia products.

Don't count Symbian out--it's a rich, fertile development platform. So rich, in fact, that developers who utilize their Open C POSIX interface can be assured of the highest degree of code portability.

Example: My N95 is running a port in Open C of Apache in the form of Nokia's Mobile Web Server here. That's right. An Apache Web Server running on a phone. Ponder the possibilities.

The N95, although on the high-end price-wise, packs so many features that I call it a 'pocket pc' because that is what it is. It uses the same TI OMAP ARM multi-core processor as the N800 Internet tablet yet assumes a smaller lighter cell phone form factor. Everyone will have one like it in the next year or so because of Nokia's technological development lead.

Nokia is influencing the direction of mobile software/hardware development more than any other competing consortium or vendor, including Android and Linux.
