OpenProj is THE only open source alternative to Microsoft Project
That is a joke! OpenProj is actually a very good program that saved my company from spending $1,000/copy for Microsoft Project and it is availble on Linux, Mac or Windows. OpenWorkbench is only available on Windows and is not open source software. Repeat, OpenProjectWorkbench is not open source. Computer Associates did not open source the project management scheduling algorithms. The key/core/vital project management code is not open source. Computer Associates is committing one of the most agregious violations of the open source movement. It is also a program that is unusable and has not been updated significantly since Workbench was acquired by Niku back in the 1990's. When Computer Associates acquired Niku it futher got 'benched'.

Whoever sent you that note must work for Computer Associates. OpenProj is so far advanced past their solution it does not even warrant a discussion, Workbench is not even a usable solution. I have used many solutions and this is by a longshot the worst user interface I have ever encountered. It would be interesting to see anyone download Workbench and try and link a few tasks together. Microsoft Project and OpenProj let you highlight a few tasks and click on an autolink icon OR you can just click and drag links between tasks. I am not a proponent of MS Project but the only two options are OpenProj from Projity or Project from Microsoft.
