A few additions wink
Hi Dana,

Just to be clear up a few points (the wonders of blogging vs. traditional press).

I am an IBM employee and if there was an automatic way for me to make this clear on my Infoworld blog posts I would. But I have to paste a disclaimer for each post, and being in a rush at times, I forget. The 'About' page at InfoWorld's Open Sources does make it clear that I'm an IBMer and that I blog my personal views.

Linux is a great example of stating with lots of choice. There is still a lot of choice around Linux distros today. But, for the most part, the average enterprise will choose between 3 or so distros for server deployment. The 'weeding down' metaphor is truly customer driven, which is why it's a much better model than having a vendor anointed 'winner'.

Lastly, my last name ends with an 's' not a 'z'. I'm from Goa, a part of India that used to be a Portuguese colony, and hence the 's' ending. In most of Latin America, my last name is spelled with a 'z'. (The wonders and angst of choice!) As long as you don't call me Fabio, we'll be okay wink
