Very good point. MS has to be laughing here. Everybody focusing on Media
Player and IE, while they quietly use MS Office to cause interoperability problems and maintain the Windows monopoly. There is a reason that MS if fighting ODF tooth and nail and spending hundreds of millions on campaigns and lobbying. Microsoft understand they are making money hand over fist on Office, and that it also props up the other monopoly.

But, who will spend the money and file the complaints. Google? I kind of doubt they want the distraction or the cry-baby label, and there in lies the Microsoft advantage.

Also, the next big lock-in trick it Silverlight. Look for MS to give away dev tools, open the specs, help Novel with Moonlight, then, if there is ever a significant number of websites using it, they will slowly close it up and add undocumented extensions. Same thing with the PDF replacement.

Microsoft has a lot of tricks in their bag and neither the EU nor the DOJ will have any luck keeping up with them. Of course in the case of the DOJ, they are now her to HELP MS, and that won't change until 2008.
