First off we talking about a 'public' service here. The BBC is funded by public money (political) and is being accused of not fulfilling its charter for equal access for all (political).

Whilst the BBC needs to get 'best value' they must service the demands of the public not be in the business of identifying market segments to commercially exploit.

Secondly, if greasing palms is the only way for proprietary technologists to win government contracts then come the revolution!
