While I agree that it doesn't mean much to know what server they are on, it is useful if you then want to talk to them later. Politics is local, and if when talking to a politician about FLOSS, copyright or patent policy you can point to the fact that they were an indirect user, this helps. I normally say everyone is a Linux user given everyone uses Google, but Google isn't as safe a bet to mention to politicians any more.

I have written similar lists during Canadian federal elections.
