But how about 100 machines
I'll agree that one windows machine and one unix machine are much the same in terms of configuring and installing software, for a fairly well trained tech.

But what about configuring 100 of each.

For unix, I can often do something like:

#!/bin/bash

source machinelist.sh
for i in machinelist; do
ssh $i (do some config thing here);
done;

and configure all 100 machines at once, once I know what I want done.

I find that even with the most advanced tools available in a windows environment, the amount of time required to maintain the boxes seems to rise almost linearly as you increase the number of boxes, but with unix, in general, extra boxes are almost free, if they're the same basic setup as one you've already got running.
