If the content providers make it clear upfront that they will not sell me content unless it's in a format in which it can be played only on certified DRM-enabled machines or using certified DRM-enabled software, then though I may not like it at least I can make an informed decision as to whether or not I want to make the purchase. But once they start sneaking behind your back and start abusing your property and your work without your consent under the guise of protecting their work, then THEY are the ones violating the DCMA.

In order for DRM to work, all the rules have to be clear upfront and agreed to by both parties. Otherwise it falls apart.
