I'm a Linux user, and enjoy the benefits of using that platform. But I'm not threatened by OpenSolaris. Fundementally Unix is Unix. There isn't a huge difference between Linux and Solaris from an end user perspective. I can still run all of my same (POISX compliant) apps on either platform without a hitch. OpenSolaris is a good thing for everyone except: Red Hat, SuSE/Novell, OSS contributors who know the Linux kernel like the back of their hand, Linus Torvalds, and RMS.
I think the dissatisfaction coming from the OSS community is primarily fueled by those who have something to loose if OpenSolaris succeeds (Red Hat, et atl).
Also, I'm starting to feel like those who license under the GPL look down on all other licenses and discount there respective usefulness. The GPL is great for many situations, but not all of them.
