I've tried Classmate and Asus 7" laptop
The Eee has a standard TFT 7" LCD. This is just the same type of screen you get on a cheap portable DVD player, but with a bit more pixels. And you certainly didn't really concentrate when you were seing the OLPC screen cause it's the best screen ever made. 200dpi for one, and the way it utilises all the ambient light to provide an even better image in eigther color or black and white modes.

You can see the Eee does not have the OLPC-type ears, and thus it's simple mathematics, it cannot have that 2-3db gain which OLPC has got on Wi-Fi signal. On top of that the OLPC Wi-Fi chip runs at somekind of lower power and frequency to have lower bitrate but better range. Also OLPC has Wi-Fi Mesh which provides a way for children to collaborate and share data even in places where the Internet connection might not be stable, or might not yet be two-way Internet connection. OLPC has a strategy to utilize a school server to download 200GB of data from the Internet accessible at the school and sharable outside the school through Wi-Fi mesh.

I know the battery life of the Eee, it uses standard UMPC-type ULV Intel processor. That processor requires cooling, provides a unit that runs at more than 3Watts minimum. Also TFT backlighting consumes twice as much as LED backlighting. Also Asus nor Intel have not announced any DCON technology which OLPC uses to shut off the main processor 99% of the time to save energy. Also Eee does not have black and white mode for 20 hour battery life in e-book mode.
