apples to apples
George,

As I'm sure you know, the metric used in IT is performance/watt. So if you really want to compare ...

Barcelona TDP 95W
X355 (Clovertown 2.66 GHz) TDP 120W
X5365 (Clovertown 3.0 GHz) TDP 150W?

So as you also probably know (if you don't ask any overclocker), frequency can be traded for power.

So, Barcelona is +10%/+40% (int/float) better than the X355 in performance AND 26% better on power. So in performance per watt, Barcelona is +36%/+66%

Let's compare to the X5365. Barcelona -10%/20% (int/float) in performance AND 58% better in performance. So in performance per watt, Barcelona is +48%/+78% (int/float) better than X536.

Of course, even this isn't completely apples-to-apples as I'm not including the platform power of the memory controllers included in AMD but not included in Intel. Each FBDIMM costs ~6Watts. On Intel's upcoming Bearlake chipset, there's 8 of those for an additional 48 Watts.
