Is it Safe?
You're registered 'concerns' are certainly valid George.

I'm not sure there's a lot new here other than a repackaged Windows Server 2003 R2 with several extra coats 'clear coat' to give extra luster and that six-foot deep shine.

But, everyone has a right to have high expectations.

There are 'people' behind this product with lives who are putting forth their best efforts to bring to market a new product--hopefully which will prove successful.

As for the Terminal service, rdp, assuming your server is running Cygwin, sshd, one can secure rdp over an ssh tunnel with:

>ssh -L 3389:localhost:3389 user@hostname

Supplying a url of localhost in either Remote Desktop Connection (Windows) or rdesktop (Linux) gets you a SECURE rdp connection to and from your home server.

As for Dynamic DNS, if your router supports, www.no-ip.com offers a free DDNS name, which is good because I upgraded the firmware on my Linksys WRT54GL (Linux-based) router to DD-WRT which has built-in DDNS support with no-ip support. If your ISP decides to reissue your dhcp ip, then the router's DDNS service will forward that new ip address to your no-ip account.

This makes reaching your router from 'anywhere' accessible by domain name (vs ip)!

Combining that into a home server solution is a good idea.

A lot of this stuff is beyond the average home user so, I see the potential for packaged solutions from MS and Linux vendors like this.

Good Luck to MS with Microsoft Home Server!
