If they wanted marketshare at a lower entry price they could have pulled that off years ago with cloner acquisitions and more mfg on their own part with rigid standards and practices to ensure quality and lower production costs. A certain amount of pricing is seen as artificial since most of the parts are the same stock and trade of competitors world wide minus the OS, so better question is why change the decades old course? Apparently Apple either has the approach and/or the user base they 'want' to have. What would they do with the others?
