SonoSite makes a similar product. As part of a an upgrade of portable ultrasound used by the PA's to place central lines in a hospital chain, SonoSite reps used their latest & greatest product at the bedside on my patient who has known abnormal subclavian vein issues that required placing the central lines under bedside flouro. (Patient too unstable to transport to Radiology and way too much life support such as a Tandem Heart.) What I thought was the best feature was the ability to change the probe and do an echocardiogram. All available in a "latop" size portable.

Either GE's or SonoSite's product offers a change in delivery of heathcare. Image the ability to see heart motion (cardiac echo) during ACLS level CPR. Current echo machines are way too big to get to the patient with the code team around the bed. Data from AHA has shown that rapid & deep CPR has better outcomes and because most patients seem to come as super sized, it is very hard to determine if CPR is being done as effective as possible.

The impact on health care in developing counties is very questionable. What good does it do to diagnosis a medical problem if the country does not have the resources to fix it?
