Interesting...
...the Nokia Siemens networks looks to be a bit of a disaster whilst the handset side looks in bad shape - most of this loss is driven by the 903 Euro writedown for NSN.

Handset sales seem to be doing OK although Nokia clearly need to up their game at the high end - the N97 has been poorly received (you don't resize and reprice a unit (as the N97 Mini) that quickly unless it isn't selling as well as expected) and they don't have a direct competitor to the iPhone 3GS or HTC Hero.

That should change with the N900 and X6 but Nokia need to ensure that they get it right - it's been over two years since the all conquering N95 and they've now failed twice with flagship handsets (N96 and N97) because they didn't understand the market or their customers.

However, they still dominate the smartphone sector, mainly due to the 5800 and other mid-range smartphones which Nokia do really well so it's not all bad news - shifting 16.5 million units in a quarter where your flagship takes a panning and you're up against some awesome competition from Apple, HTC and others ain't too shabby.
