What's wrong with the browser?
I keep seeing pure-play SaaS vendors going with native mobile apps. Doesn't that kind of defeat one of the key tenets of SaaS? To me it seems like a mobile app is a mini-me version of on-premise software.

Seriously, why not just stick with the browser? There is simplicity and efficiency in being able to provide and consume an application completely in any browser, anywhere.

I've heard the arguments for speed, bandwidth and connectivity but I think that is all part of the trade off. The app vendor is responsible to make sure the UI is optimized for the consumer's mobile browser of choice.

For example, I'd never want a mobile app for www.delta.com or www.surfline.com. They've done a great job at providing a mobile UI for my tiny Blackberry screen.

Service-now.com has done the same for an incredibly robust enteprise IT service desk application. Just point your mobile browser at http://demo.service-now.com (no registration required) and you'll see what I mean.

This seems like SaaS 101 to me.
