You are confusing OS with UI
There is nothing special here, so the question isn't whether the moblin OS will gain traction. The question is whether the UI experience on the device will be compelling enough.

That demo looks really cluttered compared to the Palm pre or iPhone.

If the industry really thinks it can take some generic Linux, slap a lazy UI skin on it, and gain traction, it is in for a rude surprise with consumers.

And that goes for Microsoft too, for that matter. Windows on a umpc or tablet is just as half-baked as it was five years ago.
