Gone to Sprint!
As a 21 year VZW customer and my wife as a 16 year VZW customer, our bills with data on our phones and 400 minutes for me and unlimited and text for hers, our bills were $270/month combined (mine with a 6% discount on a business plan). We were on WM 5.0 devices (SCH-i730)and wanted something smaller and more up to date with greater screen resolution.

Looking at devices then offered by VZW, it was between the Samsung Omnia and the HTC Touch Pro. I abhor both the whyPhone and the Crackberry as having too many limitations for my needs. So I look at the Omnia, and it is OK, lower than desired screen resolution, no keyboard, and an external stylus(what's with that?). I look at the Touch Pro, and it is slow, has a beuatiful VGA screen, funky keyboard layout with fewer keys than the Srpint version, and doesn't perform like the specificaqtions say it should. And both are GPS wquipped phones tied to VZW pathetic navigation system by triangualtion of cell towers, for which the customer has the privilege of paying an extra $10/month! What a deal!

Then I discovered the VZW Touch Pro is a crippled version of the the Sprint CDMA Touch Pro. Luckily with VZW Open Device intitiative, many were registering the MEID of their Sprint Touch Pros to run on VZW. So many that VZW started denying the MEID under the cover of "incompatibilities" (say what?). Yeah, the ROM had to be flashed and VZW radios loaded (rather trivial is you understand a Windows computer even on the most elementary level).

So I looked at Sprint. GPS not tied to proprietary navigation system, data plans much lower, and since the were both PCS service in my primary calling area, service was similar as Sprint can roam on the "incompatible" VZW CDMA towers. With a company discount, unlimited data, texting and a shared 3000 minutes/month worked out to $135 for both with company affiliation discount. Customer service has been more than adequate, very responsive and accessible. Connections are as good as VZW in my area (since I can roam on their towers if I must). And I have customized my phone with a much more effeicient ROM and some cab files which are FREE! I don't need no stinking "App Store"!

My suggesstion is you monitor then try Sprint regardless of your device if you are on GSM. We signed up with Fry's (who unfortuantely no longer are a Sprint vendor) and also recieved a $100 sign-up bonus!

Will I go back to VZW? Not in this lifetime unless they become more customer oriented and a whole lot less arrogant. VZW does have great customer service personnel, and great network build out. However, Sprint is 2nd in 3G network coverage in the US, and I would say their customer service is at least 95% as good, and the network is not overloaded like AT&T.

WiMax is being built out rather completely in my area of Texas, so I am looking forward to that. It is rumored that Deutsche Telecom (owner of Traler Park Mobile) may make a bid for Sprint. Hopefully the technology imcompatibilities with CDMA and WiMAx will deter them.

Happy with Sprint! VZW left as road kill!
