subscription music services
"Subscription music services make a lot of
sense, but consumers generally prefer to
download their tunes."

This has perplexed me for some time --
particularly for the first few years of the
iTunes store, where fidelity of available DLs
was severely limited by the 128 kbps AAC-only
policy.

During the same period I was listening to 160
kbps (and higher) on-demand subscription
streams for well under the price of a single CD
a month. Better quality sound, instant
availability of a huge range of music in a
generally easy to use/search interface... a
real prescription against music boredom for
bargain prices.

Yet the electronic entertainment commentariat
largely ignored or dissed such services while
they fawned over the iTunes store.

Imagine.
