Isn't XML meant to provide a standard format for storing and transferring data? This lawsuit will just make other companies more cautious about using XML which will basically negate any attempt to make XML a standard. In my opinion, i4i never should have received a patent on XML in the first place, it's just too broad. It's almost like getting a patent on the CSV format. I hate to say it but I'm on Microsoft's side on this one.
