RE: Judge's idea to outlaw links won't save newspapers
The consolidation of newspaper ownership over the last few decades represented a threat to democracy. Freedom of the press does not mean a great deal if one man owns the press. The internet matured at an opportune time to prevent the newspaper barons from exerting too much influence over society and the economy. The last thing newspapers should have is legal protection.

Newspapers screwed up by not going digital sooner to capture the digital classified market. Seems to me they could have saved a bundle by not killing and distributing trees, but they missed the boat. Sort of like the MPAA/RIAA.

That is what we call great technological progress - when you get a lot more for a lot less and enhance democracy at the same time.
