I wish the jealousy would just end...
Well, Microsoft gets a cut from ordinary PC manufacturers
for each machine sold (as pretense for not allowing piracy).
Apple's solution is to manage both the software and the
hardware in such a way as to provide value that Microsoft
and Linux cannot (and yes, I run Ubuntu when I can and
probably will move to Win7 when I need to run windows).

Face it: OS X is an operating system that they sell for their
branded machines, to help them also sell hardware. If you
don't like it, just don't use OS X. Go for Windows, Linux, or
one of the BSDs.

You can easily choose to use other OS's, but if you choose
to use OS X, you must abide by the licensing.
